Type above and each letter drops into a circle. These are the outlined circled letters from Enclosed Alphanumerics, a complete set with both cases. The filled black variant is a patchier story.

These are characters, not formatting, which is why they survive a paste into a bio. It is also why a screen reader will not read them as ordinary letters, and why some sites refuse them in a name field.

The set this page uses

Ⓐ at U+24B6, CIRCLED LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A, running through Ⓩ, and ⓐ at U+24D0 running through ⓩ. Both cases, all fifty-two letters, and all of it below U+FFFF in the older, better supported part of Unicode. That is why bubble letters usually render on a phone that shows boxes for the mathematical alphabets behind the gothic and monospace styles.

The filled circles are not the same thing

🅐 at U+1F150, NEGATIVE CIRCLED LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A, is white on black, and it has three problems. There is no lowercase, so a generator offering it folds abc onto ABC. It lives above U+FFFF, where many Android system fonts draw a box instead. And where a font does have it, it is often drawn emoji-style, in color, at a different size from the text around it. Treat the filled look as a capitals-only extra, never the main output.

Numbers stay plain

Circled digits do exist, ① at U+2460 and ⓪ at U+24EA, but they are a separate series encoded for numbered lists rather than part of the letter run, so digits in your text come back as ordinary figures. Accented letters and punctuation are left alone too.

Honest limits

  • A screen reader announces CIRCLED LATIN SMALL LETTER A, so a circled sentence is read out as a list of descriptions. This is decoration and nothing else.
  • Normalization folds ⓐ back to a, so a field that tidies input stores the plain word.
  • Circled text cannot be searched as ordinary text, and some platforms refuse it in a name field.

In Spanish: letras en burbuja. Every other style is on the fancy text generator.
